Add or Edit Ad Unit. General Parameters Tab.

Add and Edit an Ad Unit is made in the same manner and the same form. Check out previous topic on were to find “Edit Ad Unit” and “Add Ad Unit” buttons. Forms are slightly different for Ad Units created with or without Google Ad Manager integration. Everything is described in details below.

1. Ad Unit Activity Status – Makes Ad Unit Active or Inactive. Activity is also controlled form the main UI screen. Once Ad Unit physically is not on the page or ad calls are not needed, make this particular Ad Unit inactive. The wrapper will not be making bid requests in browser background, you’ll make bidding faster and save money on useless wrapper calls.

2. Ad Unit Name – Give an Ad Unit a fancy name, made for your convenience.

3. Ad Unit Size On Page - Dimensions of the Ad Unit physically on the web page. The Ad Unit size cannot be changed after creating the Ad Unit. It's allowed to create multiple ad units with the same or different sizes.

4. Allowed Banner Sizes - This set of ad sizes represents the list of allowed banner dimensions to be delivered within the unit. The wrapper will send bid requests for all sizes and once one wins, render winning ad within the Ad Unit. It's allowed to leave this setting empty, ad unit size will be used for bidding in this case.

5. Run This Ad Unit Conditionally, Only If Match Label(s) - Here you should add Label(s) created previously in Site Settings, Conditional Ad Units tab. If blank, the Ad Unit works for any device. If filled with a label(s), the wrapper will send bids according to the screen dimension and list of allowed ad sizes. More info here: http://prebid.org/dev-docs/conditional-ad-units.html

6. Custom ID – For GAM ad units you may use DIV ids created by Google but it’s not mandatory. Important that div id in the wrapper and div id on an HTML page exactly matches. Otherwise, ad could not be displayed even if it wins.

7. Google Ad Manager Slot – When you are creating Site from scratch you may add GAM Ad Tags and HeadBidder will create Ad Unit with appropriate GAM Ad Slot. When you add it manually, make sure you put Ad Slot Code exactly as it appears in GAM UI or Tag.

8. Out Of The Page Ad Unit - This Ad Unit might be used to set up out-of-page GAM Ad Unit which serves floating/wallpaper etc. ads. Check Google documentation for more info.

9 and 12. Do Not Record Analytics Data Unless Bidders Are Set – HeadBidder will not be counting requests generated by this particular Ad Unit unless bidders are set.

Following options are available for Standalone Site-type only

10. Waterfall Standard Ad Tag - This code is used in such a case when no bids from header bidding adapters came in or no winner or bid below the bid floor value. You may put here a standard HTML ad tag from your non-header bidding demand partner or ad network.

11. Run Passback In Iframe Tag – Once enabled, the HTML code described in the previous point will be wrapped by iframe for safety.

Extra steps require for Sites integrated with Google Ad Manager. See the screenshot below. After you’ve added a new ad unit or edited parameters you’ll find a red “Attention !” sign in the UI. There are two options available – Dismiss message or Update Settings

When it’s a Site that is integrated with GAM manually you may click Dismiss in any case.

When it’s a Site that is integrated with GAM using API connection there are two options:

  • Click Dismiss is applicable when you are going to make more edits.

  • Click Update Settings when you are sure that amendments made in HeadBidder UI are final and you need to apply them on Google Ad Manager account.
